Juicy July: What’s Good to Eat This Summer

Some people think a healthy summer diet consists only of sun, surf, and frozen treats. Don’t get us wrong; we’re totally on board with a balanced diet of sunshine and relaxation, but we think there’s something to be said about also enjoying the delectable treats this season has to offer. Some of our absolute favorite restaurants have hidden gems on their menus that add that special tasty touch to a glorious summer day.

Here are some of our summer crave picks:

Mexico Cantina is our very own Mexican cuisine authority. Their authentic atmosphere and delicious menu can transport even the busiest of souls to a five-star Mexican resort. The trick to mastering their menu is focusing on the dishes that really highlight the vibrant and fresh vegetables that this season is renowned for.

Their dish that really blows us away this summer is Mexico Cantina’s Butter Lettuce Wrap. The dish utilizes a delectable variety of vegetables wrapped in a smooth butter lettuce leaf, and topped off with an undeniably authentic selection of salsas and guacamole. The dish is light, fresh and is an absolute must-have this summer.

In case you’re looking for something with a different environment, we strongly suggest heading over to Il Fornaio. Il Fornaio is an amazing Italian restaurant that has the elegant décor of a fine dining establishment, but offers the same delightful dishes at much more reasonable prices. Their menu ranges from many different salads, soups, pastas and entrees, but this summer our Il Fornaio pick has to be the pizzas.

Each pizza features mozzarella imported from Italy, making Il Fornaio’s pizza the best you can get without flying across the globe. Il Fornaio’s thin-crusted pizzas use homemade dough with toppings to please even the most exclusive of cravings.

If you want all the taste of Il Fornaio but don’t have time to sit down, check out the Il Fornaio cafe! Their salad bowls are absolute musts, and on a beautiful summer day the sun shines directly on the cafe, making itan absolutely gorgeous place to grab a bite.

Still hungry? Looking for something a little more filling? Head over to Thai Ginger or Gordon Biersch to share a hearty meal in a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Both restaurants feature wide varieties of filling meals to keep you satisfied and refueled for your next beach volleyball tournament or round of mini-golf.. In terms of our summer favorites, you absolutely have to try Gordon Biersch’s signature Lobster and Shrimp Mac and cheese.

The dish tastes just as good as it sounds. The creamy parmesan-havarti cheese topped with the freshest seafood Seattle has to offer, is the perfect dinner this summer.

Pacific Place Seafood Restaurant

Seafood is absolutely in this summer, and if the rich shellfish paired with mac and cheese doesn’t have you sold, the Ginger Scallops at Thai Ginger should do the trick. Thai Gingers’ scallops are buttery and creamy, with a little bit of spice – each bite will have you more excited for the next.

If you’re hungry, but not that hungry, have no fear – we have some summer snackage for you, too! For a smaller, but equally satiating treat, try any one of Johnny Rockets’s milkshakes. The original shakes and malts come in dozens of flavors that are perfect for scorching summer afternoons.
