Aveda Presents: “Save the Sound” Benefit Event

In our previous blog, we explained the importance of water to your body. Now, preservation and protection of these waters is vital! With Puget Soundkeeper Alliance and Pacific Place’s Aveda have teamed up so everyone can help to keep the waters of Puget Sound clean.

Puget Soundkeeper Alliance

If you’re not familiar with the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, the non-profit organization was a founding member of the International Waterkeeper Alliance, a national movement founded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr, which along with its member organizations is the fastest growing environmental movement in the world. They actively enforce the Clean Water Act of 1972, and most importantly enlist trained volunteers on kayak patrols and the Soundkeeper patrol boat on a weekly basis to actively monitor, detect and report pollution to protect the water of Puget Sound now and for future generations.

You may be wondering, what part can I play? The first thing is to simply be informed! Read up about pollution and adjust accordingly; the smaller your chemical footprint, the better. The littlest swaps you make, such as driving less or joining a carpool, can have a great impact.

Aveda Save the Sound at Pacific PlaceIf you have already made that commitment, take the next step and become a volunteer. What better way to teach your family about preserving our earth and waters than leading by example.

Drinking Water is Essential, Drink Up in Style!

You’ve heard a million times that drinking water is good for you, more than half of your body is water, everyone needs at least 8 glasses a day, water is the building block of life, blah blah blah. Unfortunately, hearing this information so many times has made it seem redundant and often times, we take for granted the importance of staying hydrated. Now that the sun is coming out and the weather is finally warming up, drinking plenty of water is more important than ever! Here are some reasons to make sure you’re staying hydrated.

Drinking water is essential for keeping your skin moist, which is key to maintaining a beautiful complexion. Dehydrated skin tends to be dry and tight, making it more prone to wrinkling. We here at Pacific Place are fully behind anything that will improve our skin and if something as easy as drinking a little extra water will make our skin more resilient to aging, how can we object?

Water is essential for supporting brain function. Drinking enough water improves blood and oxygen flow to your brain so when you start to feel that 3 o’clock energy crash, try reaching for your water bottle instead of an energy drink that’s loaded with unnecessary sugars and chemicals. Staying hydrated will strengthen your cognitive function and memory and have you feeling back in tip-top shape before you can even say, “I’m thirsty.”

Hydration is key to maintaining a healthy weight as well! Water helps speed up your metabolism, and drinking ice-cold water will help you burn a few extra calories. Not only is it refreshing, but because your body needs to work harder to warm up the water to your normal body temperature, it burns extra calories. Dehydration is often mistaken for hunger, confusing your body into thinking you need those extra cookies. Staying hydrated will prevent you from consuming empty calories that your body doesn’t need.

Whether it’s soda, juice or just water, the most important part is that you stay hydrated. We found some great water bottles that will make drinking water more fun than ever. They’re so cute that you’ll think you’re getting a new accessory instead of just a plain old water bottle!

Here’s our pick for a stylish water bottle available at Brookstone:

Bloom in to These Spring Scents at Pacific Place

There are so many great things we look forward to each spring but one of our favorite aspects is finding a new signature spring scent! Aromas almost instantaneously trigger strong reactions and have the power to flood back memories, so you’ll want the perfect scent to associate with Spring 2014 and really make a lasting impression. Often, scents are described using seemingly ambiguous adjectives like ‘bright’ or ‘heavy,’ leaving us wondering if we’re even talking about fragrances anymore. So, we here at Pacific Place, prepared a Spring Scent guide in layman’s terms so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Our friends at Victoria’s Secret have such an incredible selection of perfumes, body mists, lotions, scrubs and more in so many different fragrances, it almost made us dizzy (or maybe we were just having way too much fun with all the yummy options). It was hard to narrow down our favorites but Wild at Heart, Ready to Party, and Wild and Breezy from their PINK collection are just the right fun and flirty perfumes you would come to expect from Victoria’s Secret.

Wild at Heart is just the right amount of fruity without making you feel like you just stepped into a middle school girl’s room. The red passion fruit notes make it perfectly sweet, while the sheer musk makes the fragrance feel a bit more grown up.

VS Seattle

Despite its crazy name, Ready to Party reminds us of the classic, fresh-out-the shower smell everyone loves. The pink lotus flower and apple notes are clean and light, but girly and unique enough to make this pick anything but boring.

Victoria's Secret Scent

Wild and Breezy is exactly how you want to smell after a day at the beach, without the gross salty part. The red guava and passion-flower notes are so refreshing, you won’t be able to get enough of this stuff.

Wild and Breezy Scent

The Body Shop also has an amazing selection of products that smell like heaven, made from natural ingredients, and ethically produced. Even before you step into the shop, you’ll be spellbound by all the wonderful smells floating in the air.

The Moringa scent from The Body Shop is not so much a scent as it is an experience. One breath and you’ll think you’re a flower princess frolicking through a beautiful meadow right after a spring rainstorm. It is not at all like other “flowery” odors that smell like they were made in a factory, but feels like you’re sticking your nose into a fresh bouquet of flowers. If all that isn’t enough, Moringa scented products contribute to a sustainable wage for famers in India!

Bath and Body Works Scents Seattle

The Amazonian Wild Lily Eau de Toilette is our personal favorite. It’s the perfect combination of floral and fresh. And even when we got a bit too enthusiastic and sprayed too much, it wasn’t overwhelming in the slightest. Simple without being boring, sweet without being sickening, we wish everything in the world could smell this good.

The Original White Musk has been a best seller since 1981 so the experts at the Body Shop launched a vamped up version called White Musk Smoky Rose this year, which we fell completely in love with. Of our three picks, it’s the most intense, with an intoxicating rose scent that is daring and seductive without being overpowering — very appropriate for spring.

The Body Shop Seattle

Gentlemen, we know you have to smell good too, so we’ve rounded up some of our favorites for you as well.

Activist is surprisingly spicy while retaining The Body Shop’s signature element of being inspired by nature. It’s suitable for everyday use but perfect for those nights you want an extra oomph.

Activist Cologne

White Musk Sport is the more distinctive version of the original White Musk for Men. The grapefruit and lemon notes keep it smelling crisp and clean, but the musk provides an element of mystery and sexiness. It’s somewhat subtle, but you’ll definitely turn ladies’ heads when you want to!

White Musk Sport

Drifter from True Religion is perfectly named. There’s a slight spiciness that will intrigue you right away. You’ll find yourself asking, “what exactly do I smell” and the longer you smell it, the more layers will be revealed. All the scents will keep you wondering, much like a drifter would, not fully revealing his story, but telling just enough to fully capture your attention.

Pamper Yourself into Spring!

The spring season in Seattle seems right within our grasp, and yet, just barely out of reach. If the fleeting moments of blue sky and temperatures above 40°F weren’t enough of a tantalizing tease of what is to come, stores have already started putting out their spring collections full of bright florals and lightweight fabrics. While we desperately want nothing more than to shed our heavy coats and step outside in nothing but a t-shirt, leaving the house without a warm jacket still feels like a mistake as soon as we feel the wind chill. If you’re like us and find yourselves still slightly feeling the winter blues, join us in some major pampering to leave our winter skins behind and get ready for spring!

One of our favorite ways to welcome the new season is with a new hairstyle. Lucky for you, the stylists at SEVEN Salon have styled everyone from Drew Barrymore and Natalie Portman, to Macklemore — so you know you’ll be getting star treatment. If a new cut isn’t what you’re looking for, the experts at SEVEN also offer the best coloring and styling services. Add SEVEN’s signature Conditioning Treatment to any service to restore, soften and revitalize your hair from winter’s harsh cold that might have made your hair dull and dry. Whether you want to try the newest trend or go for something classic, no one will meet your hair needs like the talented stylists at SEVEN.

During the winter, we can get away with neglecting our feet by hiding them in cute, warm socks and stylish boots, but before you know it, sandal season will be here! To prevent any embarrassing feet moments, give your feet and legs the care they deserve with the luxurious Shea Butter Foot Cream from L’OCCITANE. The nourishing Shea Butter and goodies such as lavender essential oil, and arnica extract, will repair your feet from all the winter damage and have you feeling like you just got a pedicure!

L'Occitane Seattle

The Tourmaline Charged Skin Care set from Aveda uses finely powdered tourmaline, a naturally energizing mineral to bring out the natural glow of your skin; which might need an extra boost after toughing through the harsh elements of winter. The set includes an exfoliating cleanser, hydrating crème, and refining fluid that will energize your skin and leave you glowing from within. Get ready to look as radiant as the imminent sunshine that will soon grace the Seattle skyline.

Aveda Seattle

Gentlemen we’re sure you want to treat yourselves to some pampering as well. The Art of Shaving makes indulging manlier than ever. They offer a great range of full shaving kits that transform the mundane act of shaving into a lavish experience; you’ll wonder how you ever got through your shaving routine without these products. Each kit includes pre-shave oil, shaving cream, a shaving brush, and after-shave balm, which come in fresh scents like ocean kelp and lemon, but is available unscented for all your sensitive fellows out there.

We know it’s not quite spring yet, but you’ll surely be ready for the Seattle sunshine after trying any one of these luxurious winter solutions!

A Heart Healthy Evening at Sixth Avenue Wine Seller

“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”
― Paulo Coelho, Brida

There have been many studies that prove drinking wine is beneficial for your health. Red wine is known to have antioxidants with heart-healthy benefits and moderate drinkers of wine have a lower risk of heart disease. We here at Pacific Place are, of course, dedicated to improving our health so naturally we visited our favorite wine retail space and bar, Sixth Avenue Wine Seller, to have a very heart-healthy evening.

Wine at Pacific Place Seattle

While we may not be professional wine tasters, we are professional wine enjoyers, and of the incredible collection of both local and international wines available at Sixth Avenue Wine Seller. Here were some of our favorites.

White Wine Flight Seattle

Of the white wines, the Pratsch Gruner Veltliner from Weinviertel, Austria is our number one pick. The apple and peach notes are incredibly light and refreshing. It’s the perfect balance between not too sweet and not too dry and for better or for worse, we can see ourselves drinking this delicious wine with dinner. A lot of it.

The Le Domaine De Menard (Colombard/Ugni) from Cotes de Gascogne, France was next on our list of favorites. It’s definitely more of a dessert wine, much sweeter with notes of pear, nectarine, and lime. Make sure to swirl your glass and take a deep breath. The smell alone is good enough to have you swear off any other dessert wine out there.

From Willamette, Oregon we tried the Cristom Pinot Gris. It was the driest of the three we tried, but there were still pear and citrus notes that paired perfectly with hints of spice. We love that it’s so delicious and we love that it’s local!

Red Wines at Pacific Place

The Helix Syrah from Columbia Valley, Washington was not only our favorite red wine of the night, but our favorite overall. It has a smokiness and elusive sexiness to it that we can’t quite put our fingers on, but we’ll keep drinking until we find out!

Sparkman Cellars Wilderness Red Blend is also from Columbia Valley, Washington and it’s a little bit of peppery, and a whole lot of perfect. If the fact that Sparkman was recently recognized by Wine and Spirits Publication as one of the top 100 wineries in the world isn’t enough to convince you to try this delicious red blend, consider the fact that Sixth Avenue Wine Seller will donate 10% of the proceeds from this bottle to preserve the wilderness.

The bark of the Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa County, California is perfect for it’s bite. The smoky spices are perfectly blended with notes of red cherry and blackberry making it a perfect choice for anyone who loves strong flavors in strong wine.

We hope you head on over to Sixth Avenue Wine Seller for a lovely and heart-healthy evening of your own! Happy Valentine’s Day, from Pacific Place.

A Valentine’s Date Idea For Every Stage of Your Relationship

There’s no holiday that comes with as much pressure as Valentine’s Day. You can brush it off as a “Hallmark” holiday all you want, but that doesn’t mean you can fully escape the expectations attached to it. If the drugstore chocolates and flowers aren’t cutting it anymore, you’re in the right place. We here at Pacific Place put together a game plan for your Valentine’s Day to make sure everyone has a good time no matter what stage of the relationship you’re in.

First Date?

Keep it casual by first taking her/him to a movie! Endless Love is a romantic drama about the forbidden love between David (Alex Pettyfer) and Jade (Gabriella Wilde).  If that sounds too sappy, check out the romantic comedy, That Awkward Moment starring Zac Efron. Then, after the movie, head right next door to Johnny Rockets for some good food! One milkshake, two straws = too cute!

Johnny Rockets Seattle

If you’ve been dating a while…

Spice things up with the bold flavors of Mexico Cantina y Cocina! The delicious food will have you feeling “muy caliente” despite the cold Seattle weather, and the margaritas will make you think you’re at a beach on a tropical vacation. Who says tequila can’t be romantic?

Mexico Cantina Seattle

Rejoice in Romance

For the most romantic dining experience, try Il Fornaio. Every dish is rich and flavorful and there is a great selection of wine to choose from too. If that isn’t enough, the beautiful décor creates an ambiance second to none. After dinner, take a stroll through Seattle and soak in the sights of the city (and your date).

Remember, at the end of the day, the thing that matters most is not the restaurant or the activity, but showing your date how much you care about them! Happy Valentine’s Day lovers!
